William "Robby" Robertson

 Passed away 9/29/07.

Hal Lebovitz,

legendary sports writer died on October 18, 2006 at age 89.  He was one of the most influential sports writes in Cleveland’s history for more than 60 years.  Hal wrote for the Cleveland News, The Plain Dealer, and The Lake County News Herald.

He was inducted into the writers’ wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000, one of 11 Halls of Fame in which he is enshrined.

Hal Lebovtiz loved kids and the game of baseball and was a good friend of the Cleveland Baseball Federation.  His philosophy of youth sports and the way it should be played is the philosophy of CBF. We will always respect Hal.

Alva “Ted” Bonda

passed away on October 22, 2006 at age 88. He graduated from Glenville High School and began his career as a shoe store clerk and a parking lot attendant.  He formed a partnership with Howard Metzenbaum, setting up the first paid airport parking lot at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, now known as APCOA, Inc., the worlds largest parking company.

He lacked the money to attend college, yet served as president of the Cleveland School Board and chairman of the Ohio Board of Regents.

Bonda’s best-known civic activity was with the Indians in the 1970s when the worry was that the baseball club would move to another city.  He led a group that bought the team.  He also hired Frank Robinson as the major leagues’ first black manager.  He also designated John Adams as the team drummer with an assigned bleacher seat.

A product of Depression-Era poverty, he became a leader in business, education and sports.  He was a strong champion of Cleveland, its youth and its sports
